How to Fix Carpet Dents

When you move your furnishings, you will probably discover under that there are dents on your carpet caused by the pressure and weight of the items you moved. This is because of the importance of the objects you just moved. On top of that, you might discover that the area of the carpet under your furniture has a different color than you expected which looks like a newer one.

Homeowners can remove dents from the carpet in many different ways just like a regular home cleaning. However, the most essential thing to keep in mind is to exercise caution so as not to cause the carpet any additional damage.

Rearrange the Furniture Around Often

The most efficient method for avoiding carpet dents is to stop them from occurring primarily by moving the furniture around frequently. Move the furniture just a few feet every one or two months to avoid permanent dents from being caused by it resting in the same spot for an extended period. This will prevent the dents from becoming permanent. Suppose the indentation is not created and overlooked for extended periods. In that case, the carpet will spring back into its original shape.

Spread the Furniture’s Weight Over a Wider Area

The feet should be made larger so the pressure of the furniture may be spread over a broader area. This is another approach to help prevent dents. The dents will be unnoticeable and easier to recover from if you place wooden disks or broader pieces of wood underneath the feet of the chair. This will allow the weight to be distributed over the broader area. This works particularly well for mattresses and couches because the feet of the furniture are hidden from view. The discs do not seem to belong in an environment with chairs and tables.

Try the Cold Method

  1. If the dent is there prior to moving the furniture, put an ice bucket or ice cube on it and allowing it to melt into affected area for a few hours. If the dent is previously set, this method will not work.
  2. After that, you should use a clean cloth to absorb any extra water, and then use a clean spoon to re-fluff the carpet. When trying to restore the carpet’s fluffy appearance, exercise extreme caution so as not to ruin it.
  3. In addition, don’t overlook the ice melting, and don’t forget to leave some water on the carpet.

Use Heat

  1. If applying cold to the dented carpet does not work, try heating up the area.
  2. Use an iron to press a moist cloth over the dent, or dampen the dent itself and heat it with a heat gun or blow dryer. The fiber will become easier to separate thanks to the steam.
  3. Use a clean spoon to re-fluff the carpet in the same manner that you did with the ice.
  4. Take extra precautions not to scorch the carpet by placing a hot clothes iron straight on it or holding a blow dryer near it for an extended period.
  5. When repairing the carpet, be extremely careful not to rip the fibers in any way.

Sometimes, the only way to repair the dent is to have a professional steam cleaning and carpet restoration done. In addition, the color variation in the carpet is due to filth and fading. Both require professional cleaning to restore the carpet to its actual appearance and make it appear as though it were brand new.
